Todo se conjugaba en Eduardo Chillida: espacio, tiempo, geometría, vacío, tierra, papel, hierro, acero, alabastro, e indisolublemente la mar y la luz oscura del Atlántico, unidos al drama de violencia que sufre su lugar de origen: el País Vasco.

Cada material que usaba le hablaba de "aromas" que le hacían percibir lo que deseaba hacer con él: "Cuando conocí la tierra con la que yo quería trabajar, le puse la mano encima y enseguida me di cuenta por el oído, que me decía que era posible hacer mi obra con ella".
