Antoni Tàpies (1923 - 2012)
Hoy rendimos homenaje a Antoni Tàpies, uno de los maestros del arte de vanguardia del siglo XX y nombre imprescindible de la historia del arte español que ha muerto a los 88 años.
Tàpies nació en 1923 en Barcelona. De formación autodidacta logró crear un estilo proprio muy reconocible . Su trabajo inicial está influido por pintores como Max Ernst, Paul Klee y Joan Miró. Combina la tradición y la innovación dentro de un estilo abstracto lleno de simbolismo. Incorpora su proprio código de lenguaje a su obra, así como la cruz, motivo recurrente de su trabajo. Según Tàpies, la cruz representa la naturaleza antes de ser un símbolo religioso, al mismo tiempo que recrea la inicial del apellido del artista pero quizás existe solo para llamar la atención del espectador.
Su obra está marcada por el uso de materiales muy humildes y matéricos, como sillas, mantas, calcetines, etc. También el uso de polvo de mármol, arena, tierra u otros, deviene la característica más relevante de su trabajo.

De la obra de Antoni Tàpies destaca además su carácter reivindicativo, estuvo muy involucrado en los asuntos políticos de su época. En los años sesenta y setenta se opuso a la dictadura franquista y fue encarcelado por asistir a una asamblea clandestina en el monasterio de Montserrat.
Tàpies conoció el éxito en vida de hecho, consiguió los más importantes premios españoles e internacionales. Sus obras se han expuesto desde los años cuarenta y fue uno de los fundadores de Dau al Set creado en 1948, junto con Ponç, Cuixart y otros de los artistas más destacados del panorama catalán.

Today we give homage to Antoni Tàpies, one of the masters of avant-garde art of the twentieth century and essential name in the Spanish art history who has died at the age of 88.

His work is also marked by the use of very humble materials, as chairs, blankets, socks, etc. Also the use of marble dust, sand, soil or other, became the most salient feature of their work.
From Antoni Tàpies’s work also emphasizes protesting character, he was very involved in the political affairs of his time. In the sixties and seventies he opposed to Franco dictatorship and was imprisoned for attending a secret meeting in the Monastery of Montserrat.
Tàpies met success in life in fact he got the most important Spanish and international awards. His works have been exhibited since the forties and was one of the founders of the Dau al Set created in 1948, along with Ponç, Cuixart and others of the most important artists of the Catalan scene.
